Article 26 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 10 December 1948:
Everyone has the right to an education.
In the tiny landlocked country of Malawi in southeast Africa, 74% of children will be forced to drop out of school before the age of 14. They’ll be forced to drop out because of hunger, malnutrition, preventable diseases, child marriage, child labor, long distance commutes to the nearest public school or because their parents cannot buy them the required shoes and uniform. These children wake up everyday forced to face the horrific injustices of extreme poverty that no child should ever have to face.
In Malawi, education isn’t a right.
It’s a miracle.
Since 2018 RiseUp Malawi has been fighting against child injustice in rural Malawi with the one solution that matters: education. Education that empowers. Education that sustains. And education that transforms. Because if we don’t do something about this situation for these children- the question becomes, who will?
“But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.”
